We have discussed in the past the reasons why anybody should take up Yoga lessons and practice this incredibly healthy type of physical activity. Good both for the body and spirit, Yoga practice doesn’t require a complex setting, or many things to add to your space at home. In fact, some say people don’t need anything at all to begin Yoga exercises, but in order to benefit from a deep, effective and enhanced experience, we recommend you the following items to set your own home Yoga space.
1. Yoga Mat
One of the first things you should get, the Yoga mat allows you to make your exercises on a padded, non-slipping surface. We recommend a classic Yoga mat for all beginners, but a thicker one may come in handy if you practice directly on a wooden floor.
2. Yoga Apparel
Surely, you can use the stretch pants and tank top you already have, but there are some specialized pieces of Yoga practice clothing you might want to take a closer look at. The clothes you wear when you practice Yoga should be comfortable (while highly stretchable) and should allow freedom of movement and flexibility.
3. Yoga Books
If you are a beginner, you should start your home Yoga practice in full knowledge of what you should expect, experience and achieve. You also need the right mindset. Moreover, if you want to go beyond the beginner’s level in the future, you should get yourself familiarized with the main Yoga concepts.
4. Yoga Videos
Getting some DVDs or subscribing to a live Yoga stream or YouTube channel dedicated to beginners is a good idea, as you can see for yourself the correct position, the sequence of movements, the breathing techniques and the correct use of the mat or other props. If you are completely new to Yoga, practicing together with a virtual trainer is a must.
5. Yoga Blocks
High density large size foam Yoga blocks help you get into the poses safer and better and help you extend your reach, while you strive for more and more flexibility. Since they allow proper body alignment, they can alleviate the body’s post-Yoga practice tension, also reducing muscle strain or injuries.
6. Yoga Music
If you practice with the aid of a video, music should be left for a later, more advanced stage of your practice, as you need to pay attention to the instructions. However, if you master all the techniques and poses and you fly solo, then Yoga music will help you get better in the mood. It helps you to relax, it soothes and it paves the way to a complete and fulfilling Yoga practice.
