If you’re anything like us then you don’t want to have to trek to the gym to get a good strength workout in (there’s only so much cardio we can take in a day!). Enter the Bowflex SelectTech 552, designed to provide users with the opportunity to work out at home, all whilst taking up very little space.
The 552’s have been very well designed, combining 15 sets of weights into one via a unique dial system, allowing you change the resistance on each dumbbell from 5 pounds up to 52.5 pounds. However, there seems to be just one problem: the plates have a tendency to come loose.
To change the level of resistance, all you have to do is simply turn the dial on the end of each weight. This allows you to change the resistance of each dumbbell from 5 pounds all the way up to 52.5 pounds
. The weight of each dumbbell can be adjusted in 2.5-pound increments up to the first 25 pounds (5, 7.5, 10, 12.5, 15, 17.5, 20, 22.5, 25) and then in multiples of 5 (30, 35, 40, 45, 50) until you reach the maximum weight of 52.5 pounds.
The Bowflex SelectTech 552 allow you to perform a variety of exercises, including wide squats, calf raises, side lunge, stiff-leg dead lift, for your legs; alternating rows, wide row, dead lift, for your back; incline chest press, flat fly, incline fly, for your chest; ab crunch, reverse crunch, lying leg raise, for your abs; incline bench curls, concentration curls, overhead triceps extensions, hammer curls, for your arms; and lateral raise, front raise, seated overhead press, for your shoulders.

Bowflex SelectTech 552 User Reviews
The SelectTech 552 has been received very favorably by consumers. It currently has an average rating of 4.5 out of 5.0 from over 600 reviews.
A number of users like the fact that the dumbbells are virtually indestructible – drop them and nothing will happen to them – the ability to adjust the weight in small increments, as well as their excellent size and form.
The grip also has “just the right firmness and size,” according to a few users, while others appreciate the dumbbells sleek and stylish design.
However, while many users feel that the construction quality of these dumbbells is very good, others are under the impression that the build quality could be improved upon. For example, one user said that he “put these weights through an estimated 200+ hours of heavy use” and they “still look brand new and work just the same as when I got them.”
However, on the other end of the spectrum, one user said: “Several times the plates have fallen while working out,” leading him to question the SelectTech’s build quality and design.

We feel that the spindles could have been manufactured from stronger material. While they have been manufactured from thin but hard plastic, there’s a chance that the spindles can break. Although it’s worth noting that Bowflex have good customer service. One user who experienced an issue with the spindles breaking received a new handle within just 5 days.
