Horizon Fitness has made two Ex-79 Elliptical models, this model and a newer model known as the EX-79-2. This is the first model of this elliptical they manufactured.

The Horizon Fitness EX 79 (2011) Elliptical Trainer is a machine, designed to give users an extraordinary good home workout. It has 20 incline levels and 20 resistance levels that are quite challenging to most users even on the lower levels. It also has a longer stride than most home exercise machines making it possible for users to get close to a running workout on this machine. The only real problem with this machine, is that some of the parts are made of lower quality materials, resulting in annoying breakdowns for many users. While the Horizon Fitness EX-79 Elliptical does come with a fairly decent warranty, users may want to get an extended warranty due to the possibility of breakdowns.

Comfort

When designing the EX 79 Horizon put a lot of thought into making this elliptical comfortable. It has a low 10 inch step on design, wide foot pedals, Zero-gap pedal placement for less stress on the back and hips, and a fan to help users users stay cool.

Workout ProgramsHorizon Fitness EX 79_panel

The EX 79 comes with 11 programing options to track time, distance, and calories burned. 3 of the programs are for incline including rolling, mountain and reverse terrain and 2 custom programs. It should be noted for those who are doing a comparison between this version of the EX-79 and and newer EX-79-2 that both ellipticals have the same program options. However, the LED console on which you read your workout information on this Elliptical is displayed on a rather old fashioned looking monitor, that is somewhat cluttered. (Horizon has updated their console on the newer model making it less cluttered and easier to read)

Resistance Levels/Incline Levels

The EX-79 comes with 20 power resistance levels and 20 power incline levels making for a great all round workout.

Warranty

The Horizon Fitness EX-79 comes with a fairly decent warranty consisting of 1 year on labor, 2 years on parts, and lifetime warranty on the frame.

Dimensions

 comes with a 20″ stride

measures 22” X 65” X 75” when assembled

Complaints

Several users experienced small parts breaking which results in down time while the machine is being repaired. Sometimes breakages occurred two or three times during the warranty period. These descriptions are just single cases and not the norm.

Conclusion

Horizon has put a lot of thought into designing the EX-79 making for a comfortable and challenging elliptical machine ideal for home use. However, they did tend to use some small parts which are less than ideal quality for any workout machine, which has resulted in problems of breakdowns for several users. While the vast majority of users have not experienced such breakdowns, enough users have that we feel that it might be wise to purchase an extended warranty for this elliptical trainer.
