Horizon Fitness T101-3 Review
The Horizon Fitness T101-3 (along with the newer Horizon Fitness T101-04) falls into Horizon’s mid-priced treadmill category. You can therefore expect a decent number of technological features and add-ons, such as the inclusion of speakers and a fan, as well as a comfortable and effective workout experience.

However, it’s not the best of treadmills for running on, so if you want a treadmill solely for that purpose then you will have to look elsewhere and think about increasing your budget to around $1,000.

As mentioned, the Horizon Fitness T101-3 is not the best of treadmills for running on. But why is this the case? Well, it’s because of the 2.25 continuous horsepower motor. 2.25 HP simply isn’t powerful enough to handle running, especially if the user is planning on running at higher speeds and inclines.
However, if you want your workout to consist of walking and jogging then you’ll be more than satisfied with the treadmill’s performance, especially as the motor runs both smoothly and quietly when in operation, making it a good choice for those who want to take it easy on their joints and/or do not want to annoy others as they work out.
The motor can reach speeds of up to 10 MPH and the incline can be adjusted from 0-10%, meaning that you can tailor your workout to be just as challenging or easy as you want it to be.
The Horizon Fitness T101-3 comes with a good range of pre-programmed workouts. There are 9 in total which do a good job of adding variety to your workout while challenging you.
The programs include three targets – calories, distance, time – as well as three different workouts – weight loss, intervals, manual – allowing you to find a program that is in line with your short term or long term fitness goals.
The T101-3 features a 20″ x 55″ treadbelt. This is the perfect size for most individuals to work out on. However, very tall users – think over 6′ 3″ – as well as those who have a longer than normal stride may feel a little confined as they work out.
It’s also worth mentioning that you’re in for a comfortable workout experience, which is something that isn’t always the case with treadmills. This is down to Horizon’s patented PerfectFLEX deck cushioning, which provides an excellent amount of support and shock absorption to minimize fatigue and, as mentioned, put less strain on the joints.
The Horizon Fitness T101-3 features two speakers which deliver surprisingly good sound quality. We say that this is surprising because speakers on treadmills (as well as on other fitness equipment machines) tend to be nothing more than a novelty which are only included to bump up the price. So while the bass is a bit lacking and it isn’t as if you could use the speakers to hold a party, you should be pleasantly surprised with the sound quality that they deliver.
It’s nice to see that a fan has been included, but we feel that it’s not powerful enough to provide relief during a tough workout. It’s a good idea though, and we just hope that Horizon put more time into its design process in any future treadmills they release.
The computer console displays all the information that you would want to see as you work out, such as time, speed, calories burned, current workout progress, incline and distance. Your heart rate can also be recorded by simply holding onto the contact heart rate grips on the side of the treadmill.
The Horizon Fitness T101-3 is a beast of a machine, weighing in at 180 pounds when boxed, which explains its high maximum user weight capacity – 300 pounds. You would therefore think that storing the machine would be an incredibly hard and frustrating experience. Fortunately, this isn’t the case.
Again, Horizon holds a patent which ends up improving the user’s experience. Something called FratherLIGHT lift uses two hydraulic shocks to make it easy to raise and lower the deck. Once the deck has been lowered, you can then easily move the treadmill to a location of your choice thanks to the wheels which can be found on the bottom of the machine.
The T101-3 comes with a lifetime frame, and 1-year parts and labor warranty.

The fan isn’t powerful enough to be effective – something that is sadly always the case with fans on exercise equipment. You may also want to keep in mind that the T101-3 isn’t the best of treadmills for running on.
