The Livestrong LS5.0R is primarily designed for users who are looking for a more comfortable workout experience than what traditional, upright bikes offer. However, it also comes with a good range of technological features, including 16 levels of magnetic brake resistance, 9 workout programs, and a highly functional computer monitor.
The LS5.0R appears to be very well constructed, which explains the 7-year frame warranty, maximum user weight capacity of 300 pounds, and how it doesn’t wobble from side to side as you work out; instead the bike is kept firmly rooted to the ground.
The flywheel measures 8.8 pounds, which is a little bit heavier than average. This is a good thing, as it results in a smoother, more realistic pedaling motion, particularly when you take into account the inclusion of FreeSpin technology that works to eliminate sudden, jarring stops.
The Livestrong LS5.0R features a total of 9 built-in workout programs, including Manual, Weight Loss, Muscle Toner, The Tour, Constant Watts, Mellow Johnny’s Trail, Climb, Custom 1, Custom 2. These programs allow you to mix up your workout effectively, keeping your exercise regime fresh.
There are 16 levels of magnetic brake resistance to choose from. As you might expect, the lowest level of resistance isn’t very challenging at all but is ideal for warming up and warming down. However, level 16 is incredibly challenging and is likely to give the fittest of athletes a hard time. Therefore, it’s good to know that you can gradually work up the levels as you build endurance and strength.
The Livestrong LS5.0R comfort factor is really what sets this bike apart from others. While it’s common knowledge that recumbent or semi-recumbent bikes are more comfortable than their upright counterparts, the LS5.0R takes it a step further.
The seat is contoured and provides greater lumbar support, ensuring that your backside won’t get sore as you workout – perfect if you want to undertake a long exercise session. As mentioned, the FreeSpin technology eliminates sudden, jarring stops; however, it also greatly reduces any stress felt on the joints. The bike’s step-through frame also makes it easy to mount and dismount.
The last thing to talk about is the computer monitor. The Livestrong LS5.0R computer monitor features 3 LED feedback windows with yellow writing on a black background, making it very easy to read. Time, distance, calories burned, watts, speed and your pulse are all measured.
While the LS5.0R doesn’t feature a wireless heart monitoring system (which is typical in this price range) the contact heart rate grips are able to measure your pulse to a high degree of accuracy.
The LS5.0R is backed by a 7-year frame and 1-year parts and labor warranty.

We’re with the users – there is very little to complain about. We could say that the inclusion of speakers or a fan would’ve been appreciated, but these tend to be novelty items and would’ve likely pushed the price of the bike up.
ANYTHING ELSE YOU SHOULD KNOW?
In our opinion, if you’re looking for a well-constructed, technologically packed exercise bike that also manages to offer a comfortable workout experience, then the LS5.0R is no brainer.
