Schwinn 470 Elliptical Machine Review
The Schwinn 470 Elliptical Machine Review
Table of Contents
The Schwinn 470 comes with a 20” stride, making it suitable for both shorter and taller individuals, even those with long legs/strides. As you might expect from an elliptical trainer in this price range, the stride feels smooth and natural.
This is partly down to the overall design of the machine but something called Precision Path foot motion technology also comes into play, which without going into the inner workings of this technology, simply simulates a person’s natural walking or jogging motion accurately.
The general rule is that the newer the elliptical the more technological features it comes with, and the Schwinn 470 does not disappoint. In total there are 29 programs to choose from, including 12 profile, 4 custom user defined; 2 fitness tests (1 Beginner; 1 Advanced); 1 recovery test; and 1 quick start.
However, special mention is reserved for the 9 heart rate control programs which is more than we have seen on any other elliptical – ideal for those who like to base their workout around their target heart rate.
The Schwinn 470 exceeds our expectations when it comes to the number of resistance levels too. There are 25 levels of eddy current resistance, enabling both the fit and unfit to work out at a level that is suitable for them, which can be controlled via the 5 resistance quick keys on the computer console – no manual adjustment required here, it is 2013 after all!
It’s quite rare to see an elliptical trainer, even one priced close to $1,000, come with an incline control. Users are able to adjust the motorized ramp by 10 degrees, enabling them to make their workout more or less challenging.
It’s always good to see an elliptical that comes with two backlit displays – “DualTrack” is the term Schwinn have coined for this – as this allows you to monitor up to 13 display feedbacks simultaneously.
Users are able to view time, pulse, speed, distance, rpm, calories burned, intensity, goal achievement, user indicator, % complete indicator, heart rate zone indicator, resistance level, and course profile.
You should also know that you can measure your pulse via the contact heart rate grips or the telemetry heart rate enabled device if you want a more accurate reading. However, a chest strap is not included with purchase.
A couple more things have to be mentioned, including how you are able to track time, distance and calories burned and then upload this information onto MyFitnessPal which is an impressive workout monitoring and goal tracking service; and the way in which you are allowed to customize and save up to 4 user profiles on the machine, making the Schwinn 470 suitable for family use.
It’s good to see that Schwinn have got many things right on the comfort front. The footplates are not only oversized to cater to all users, but perhaps more importantly are cushioned, allowing users to work out more comfortably for longer periods of time.
The only other thing to mention is how the handlebars are ergonomically designed and feature a decent level of padding to put less strain on your hands and arms as you exercise.
The Schwinn 470 is backed by a 10-year frame, 2-year mechanical, 1-year electrical and 90-day labor warranty.
Schwinn 470 Elliptical Machine Review by User
There have been nothing but good reviews for the Schwinn 470 since its release. Users have praised the machine’s smooth and quiet operation; easy assembly; comfort levels; and range of technological features, with special mention going to the amount of customization that is allowed.
The only complaint comes from someone who feels that the positioning of the handles makes it hard to use a tablet when using the machine.

We have very little to complain about. If we were being fussy, though, we would say that the fan could be more effective and the speakers of a better sound quality. In the grand scheme of things, however, these things make little difference to your workout experience.
Anything Else You Should Know?
The Schwinn 470 measures 70.1 x 28.2 x 63.2 inches, has a maximum user weight capacity of 300 pounds, and comes with a 3-speed fan, water bottle holder and transport wheels. Speakers are also included which is always a bonus.
