Bowflex PR1000 Home Gym Review
The Bowflex PR1000 Home Gym is able to provide users with the ability to strengthen various muscle groups and perform a bit of cardio training, all in the comfort of their own home.
There are over 30 strength exercises to choose from (if you’re looking to perform more exercises, check out the Bowflex Blaze Home Gym), resistance can be set anywhere between 5 and 210 pounds thanks to the PR1000’s Power Rod Technology, and due to the way in which the Bowflex has been designed, there is very little chance of damaging your joints as you work out.
A wide variety of exercises can be performed on the PR1000. You can choose from 6 leg, 5 arm, 4 chest, 4 shoulder, 3 back, and 2 abs exercises. Some of these exercises include bench press, front shoulder raise, narrow pull-downs, triceps pushdown, triceps extensions, standing biceps curl, seated abdominal crunch, calf raise, leg extension, to name just a few.
Furthermore, thanks to the inclusion of a sliding seat rail, it is possible to add aerobic rowing training to your regime, which not only acts as an excellent form of cardiovascular exercise, allowing you to warm-up, cool-down and burn calories, but also allows you to peform leg presses and seated leg extensions effectively.

The level of resistance that is provided by Bowflex’s Power Rod Technology can be set from anywhere between 5 pounds to 210 pounds, allowing you to tailor your workout to be as easy or as challenging as you want it to be. To adjust the level of resistance all you have to do is hook as many of the Power Rod units as you like to the cable pulley system.
While the Power Rods feel just as good to use as free weights, they have the benefit of drastically reducing the risk of joint pain – pain that is so common with free weights. Furthermore, the Power Rods are incredibly strong and have clearly been built to last, meaning that you can flex them repeatedly and give them plenty of abuse without the risk of wearing them out.
The PR1000 features a folding design, making storing the machine an easy process.

Bowflex PR1000 Review by Users
With over 215 reviews to its name and with an average rating of 4.4 out of 5.0, it’s safe to say that the PR1000 is well liked by consumers.
Plenty of users seem to think that the Bowflex is “extremely sturdy and well put together,” and feel that it has been built to last. You should also keep in mind that users have reported that the machine takes anywhere between 1 to 4 hours to assemble, depending on how handy you are and whether there is anyone to help you during the assembly process.
However, a few users feel that the maximum resistance of 210 pounds is not enough and “just doesn’t offer the resistance for body building”, as one one user puts it, although a “personal fitness trainer for many years” says that there is no need for more weight; instead, you should “try slowing the motion of your reps.”
The level of resistance and inability to upgrade the load is by far the most frequently cited complaint, with users having very little else to complain about.

It’s a bit of a shame that the PR1000 can’t be upgraded to 310 or 410 pounds, like the Bowflex Blaze Home Gym can, although, as mentioned above, if you take your time to perform the exercises, then you should feel the burn and have no desire or need to increase the load.
The Blaze Home Gym comes with a lifetime warranty on the Power Rods. As we understand, both the PR1000 and Blaze feature the exact same rods, so we’re not sure why they aren’t backed by a lifetime warranty on the PR1000.
Anything Else You Should Know?
While the Bowflex PR1000 doesn’t come with an instructional DVD, a workout placard which shows you how to perform the various exercises both safely and effectively has been included. It’s also worth noting that the home gym has a maximum user weight capacity of 300 pounds and even the tallest of individuals (even those approaching 7 foot) can comfortably use the machine.
Besides this, all you need to know is that the PR1000 is available at a very attractive price and therefore offers good value for money. The only thing that puts people off is the inability to increase the resistance past 210 pounds, but this shouldn’t be an issue, as explained above. On the other hand, if you really think that it’s a problem, then you may want to have a look at the Bowflex Blaze Home Gym, although be prepared to pay almost twice as much for the privilege.
