Golds gym cycle trainer 290 c review

  • Gold's Gym Cycle Trainer 290 C

The Gold’s Gym Cycle Trainer 290 C is an inexpensive bike that looks to offer very good value for money judging by its range of features.

It’s nice to see a budget exercise bike coming with 14 built-in workouts (particularly when compared to another model from the company, the Gold’s Gym Trainer 110), all of which have been designed by a certified personal trainer. Best of all, however, is the built-in weight loss program that promises to transform your body in 8 weeks.

It’s therefore clear that the 290 C is primarily designed for those looking to lose weight, although those who just want to stay in shape will too of course benefit.

There are 16 resistance levels to choose from, which is again unexpected in this price range. With this many resistance levels at a user’s disposal both the fit and unfit will undoubtedly be challenged. What we really like, however, is how the resistance is controlled digitally, so there is no need to be fiddling with an adjustment knob that can interrupt the flow of your workout.

The 290 C is just okay when it comes to comfort. Budget exercise bikes are rarely very comfortable, and this bike from Gold’s Gym is no exception. However, the seat is oversized to cater to all body types, and has a decent level of padding. It can also be adjusted both vertically and horizontally.

You are able to track your workout progress via the large, blue-tinted LCD display, including distance, time, speed, resistance, calories burned, and pulse via the dual-grip PowerPulse heart rate monitor. Surprisingly, the heart rate monitor is accurate, which is a rarity for budget exercise bikes, although the calorie counter, as expected, is a little off.

Other features that shouldn’t really be found on a budget exercise bike but are included on the 290 C include a compatible music port for an iPod, an Intermix Acoustics 2.0 Sound System, and a CoolAire workout fan with two speed settings. The expected water bottle holder and transport wheels are of course also included.

The Gold’s Gym Cycle Trainer 290 C is backed by a 5-year frame and 90-day parts and labor warranty, and can support users up to 275 lbs.

While the 290 C hasn’t got many reviews to its name, all of them are positive. Users like the bike’s design, quiet operation, workout effectiveness, range of features and compact size. However, a power plug would’ve been a nice addition, according to one user. We personally feel that a heavier flywheel would’ve been good as well, but the 290 C still manages to deliver a smooth workout.

As one user says, “It’s a nice bike. Simple, good looking and not that expensive.” It would be hard to disagree with that.
