Merit Fitness 725T Plus Treadmill Review

With low priced treadmills, you tend to get what you pay for. The Merit Fitness 725T Plus Treadmill falls into the low priced treadmill category, but is it able to exceed expectations or does it fail miserably like so many other models in this price range?

On the surface, with a powerful motor, a generous number of workout programs, an easy-to-read display and an attractive appearance, the 725T Plus looks as if it may be the exception. But what happens once you take a closer look?

The Merit Fitness 725T comes equipped with 7 preset programs – three more than the Merit Fitness 715T Plus – including manual, intervals, endurance challenges, cardio, weight loss, mountain climb and hill climb. These do a good job of adding variety to your workout so you don’t get bored, while at the same time providing enough of a challenge for more experienced exercise enthusiasts.

The 2.25 continuous duty horsepower motor powers the treadmill very smoothly and quietly, so even heavier users can enjoy steady belt motion underfoot. This is true even at the treadmill’s maximum speed of 10 mph and its maximum incline of 10%, which is refreshing to see as many manufacturers quote their top speeds and inclines for running on the flat.

The Merit Fitness 725T Plus Treadmill features an easy-to-read, two-window LED display which tracks speed, distance, time, calories burned and resistance. Your heart rate can also be tracked via the thumb pulse, which is able to warn you if you start to workout above your target heart range, which is advantageous as it can help you work out in line with your goals.

The 18” x 50” deck comes with an Aerosoft cushioning system below the belt that does a good job of absorbing and minimizing any strain felt in your feet and legs as you workout.

The Merit Fitness 725T comes with a lifetime frame, 2 years motor and 90 days parts and labor warranty.

Any Complaints?

The deck is a little on the small side, measuring 18” x 50” which may result in very tall users feeling confined as they work out. One more complaint is that Horizon Fitness state that the maximum user capacity is 250 lbs, but we feel that it is closer to 225 lbs. If you need a treadmill with a larger deck and higher weight capacity, then have a look at the Daytona Professional Grade Non-folding Treadmill.

Anything Else You Should Know?

For under $500, the Merit Fitness 725T offers very good value for money. It is well-built, comes equipped with a powerful motor, as well as a strong frame and enough workout programs to keep things interesting. If you do not want to splash out on the more expensive models, and are more interested in buying a machine that can provide you with an effective workout, rather than being packed with technological features, the 725T Plus should be at the top of your list.
