The popularity of elliptical trainers has surged in recent years, primarily thanks to the ability to get an excellent workout in while you watch TV, listen to music or read a book, all in the comfort of your own home, but also because they are designed to ensure that no strain is felt on the joints.
There are hundreds, if not thousands, of elliptical trainers on the market. After extensive research, we have found that one of the best ones is the Schwinn 460 Variable Stride Elliptical Trainer.
Increased Calorie Burning
Thanks to Schwinn’s patented V-Stride technology users are able to burn twice as many calories as they can on a treadmill, and 15% more calories than other elliptical trainers, even the fixed-stride ones.
You can also start to include High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) in your workout, which is widely considered to be the most efficient and effective technique to burn calories. This is achieved through the 16 resistant levels that come equipped with this trainer.
Many people are hesitant to purchase elliptical trainers online without having first tried them, because they want to see if the stride is comfortable enough, relative to their stature. Fortunately, this is not an issue with the 460.
You are able to vary your stride from 2 to 26 inches, thanks to the patented V-Stride technology, meaning that anyone, whatever their age, weight or height may be, can enjoy a comfortable workout.
Schwinn are also known for the little things when it comes to comfort, such as equipping their machines with an adjustable cooling fan, oversized water bottle holder and easy storage capabilities, all of which this model include.
The Schwinn 460 comes with a crystal-clear touch screen, LCD display that is able to show you the amount of calories you have burned, the distance and time travelled, the speed you are working out at, your heart rate and the resistance level you’re training at.
One more thing to add, which we felt was a nice touch, is the ability to change between the Metric and American Standard system. Although many users have been brought up with the American Standard system, it’s good to know that this option is available for those who have been brought up in another country or have relatives from another country visiting.
One of the best features of the Schwinn 460 is its customization, whereby you can create 2 customizable workouts which track your progress. We found this to be a very good motivating tool and can make achieving your goals just that little bit easier.
The Schwinn 460 comes with a 10 year frame, 2 year parts, 1 year electronic and 90 days wear parts warranty.
54 x 34 x 73 inches
The Schwinn 460 has received a lot of love since its release, with users stating that they love the construction quality, customizable workouts, the ability to change the stride length so anyone in their family can work out, as well as the range of resistance settings. However, there are a couple of issues, although minor (see below).
Average Rating: 4.2
There have been a few complaints regarding the difficulty of assembling the trainer. However, these complaints have come from people who have tried to assemble it by themselves. As long as you find another person to help you set up the machine you should not run into any difficulties, and can expect to spend a maximum of 30 minutes assembling it.
One more complaint, although minor, is the exclusion of a calorie goal feature which tells you when you have burned a specific amount of calories, as determined by you before you start working out. However, as mentioned, this is a minor issue, as a quick glance of the LCD display on the Schwinn 460 will tell you how many calories you have burned.
